Photo Formative 4

These are my two photos for the photo formative "Circles". The top picture is the naturally occuring circles and the bottom one is the set up picture of circles. The top photo was taken on the inside of a grain silo up at my aunt's farm. It has a few circles, some of which are implied, and can be distinguished by their darkness. One of the circles is the bright one in the center where the sun is shining through, and another is the circular shadow around the one hole that looks like a large and dark circle. My set up photo of circles is a handful of coins set into a circle on a table. The coins themselves are circular and they also give your mined the picture of a circle by means of implying, as they are all set up in one large circle.

Triptych Summative

1. The first panel represents skateboarding. At first, it was going to focus on sports, but I wanted to narrow that category down because there were too many pictures to use, so I used skateboarding as the category. I am really interested in skateboarding news and I skateboard as a hobby, so I saw that is would be good to use as the narrower category. I was also either going to use hockey or snowboarding. The second panel represents the music aspect of my life. It shows that I play music because of the guitars and it shows I enjoy listening to it because of the CD's. Also the belt buckle shows I like music. Other photos that should be included would be clarinet photos. The last panel is of my friends and me. Friends are a big part of my life, so I devoted a panel to them. It includes some city friends and some camp friends.

2. I used the elements in many ways, but the easiest ones to see are mostly in the skateboarding and music section. Color is used in the skateboarding section by making a lot of the tones gray and dark blue, so that it works together and it is monotoned like concrete, which is what you skateboard on. Also for line, abstract lines of skateboards all sort of point to the middle of the panel which leads your eyes to the main photo. Color and texture were both used when the color of concrete and the texture of concrete makes you think that it's rough.

3. I feel that the areas of strength were all within the skateboarding panel. That panel was the second panel I did, so I had a bit of experience from the first one, and I used very unnatural shapes in a nice way that is pleasing to the eye. Also another area of strength was the Photo in Photo in the friends panel because it turned out really well because it gives you the feeling that it is an actual polaroid picture that has been casually tossed onto the triptych.

4. I think the areas that could need some more work would be my music photo, the lines between the panels and the edges around selections. The music panel is a bit rough due to the fact that it was my first panel that I did so it was more experimental, but now that I have the techniques, I could refine it. The transition zones between the panels are a bit rough, so the gradients between them could be reworked. Lastly, the selection edges were rough because I used the polygonal lasso tool and then used the eraser to clean up the edges. Next time I would use a smaller eraser to avoid the jagged edges I made accidentally.

Photographic Formative

This is my photo for colour and shape. This photo is of some CD's in my room on my desk that I arranged into a larger square. Each one is a square and they all form one large square, as well as they each have colours portrayed like the Metallica album is all black and the Billy Talent album is red and yellow. because of these portrayals of shape and colour I believe that this is a good photo to use to ebody those elements.

Photographic Formative 2 Texture

Out of the many pictures I took, this was the one I chose for texture. It is the wall of Sporting Life on Yonge. This element was a bit harder to portray in a photo than others, but this one I feel really shows it well. You can plainly see it resembles the texture "rough" because of its jagged edges. The shadows also really emphasize the larger edges potruding from the wall that make the wall very rough. These reasons lead me to believe that this is the best picture to categorize the element Texture.

Photographic Formative 1 Line

This Photograph I call Lattice Fence. Although I had great difficulty choosing between 2 other photos I took, I chose this one because it uses straight lines in many different ways. First you see the first part of the lattice, it's cross hatched and makes your eyes travel slowly down the rest of the fence. Then the next section of lattice blurs together, which causes your eye to jump to the straight 2x4 all the way down the fence. Lastly, it reaches another cross hatched piece of lattice. I really like this photo and I really believe it captures the element of line very well. This seems to be the best of the 39 photos I took.

I made this on Photoshop. It's a picture of Rush in concert, but slightly modified, with clouds, inversion and a pentagram, which is one of their symbols, above them.

I made this on Photoshop. It's a picture of Jimi Hendrix and the words are a song of his called "Are You Experienced?"

Made this on Photoshop. Its a picture of Dave Gilmour, the guitarist of Pink Floyd. The lyrics floating around are from the song "Comfortably Numb"
